The End
The following is a personal interpretation of the Scriptures based on observations of current events (November, 2014) so please feel free to disagree.
There is one assumption we have to make before proceeding and that assumption is the Babylon of Revelation is the United States of America. You may want to read the following post for some background…
Revelation 18:9, 10
“And the kings of the earth, who committed acts of immorality and lived sensuously with her, will weep and lament over her when they see the smoke of her burning, standing at a distance because of the fear of her torment, saying, ‘Woe, woe, the great city, Babylon, the strong city! For in one hour your judgment has come.’”
This passage says that Babylon will be destroyed by the smoke of her burning, not unlike Sodom was destroyed. It will also trigger the start of the seven year Tribulation. Many people think that this prophesizes World War III, a nuclear war. However, this is not correct because only Babylon is destroyed while the other nations stand at a distance. If Babylon were to be destroyed by a nuclear war then many nations would be affected, not just Babylon.
Note also that Babylon will be destroyed in one hour. There are really only two scenarios that could accomplish this - an asteroid impact or the eruption of a supervolcano. It just so happens that Yellowstone National Park is the site of an ancient supervolcano with the potential of destroying much of the United States…
But it doesn’t matter whether it’s an asteroid or a supervolcano that destroys the United States, what does matter is what would the world stage look like if the United States was taken out of the picture? Which country would become the next world leader and great military power? And most importantly, how would this affect the Middle East?
What do all countries need in order to survive? The answer is energy, or more specifically - oil. And who has a lot of oil?
Not only does Russia have oil of it’s own but in order to ensure a monopoly on the world’s supply of oil it would have to acquire all of the oil of the Middle East.
The only thing standing in the way of Russia conquering the Middle East is Israel with it’s nuclear arsenal (which Israel neither confirms nor denies that it possesses). And to solve that problem Russia will form an alliance with Israel and guarantee Israel’s safety in the region…
Daniel 9:27
“And he will make a firm covenant with the many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering; and on the wing of abominations will come one who makes desolate, even until a complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who makes desolate.”
The he in this passage is the anti-Christ and the week refers to the seven year Tribulation. So Russia will make an alliance with Israel but break that alliance 3 ½ years later, in the middle of the week.
At this point the war of Armageddon (which will probably be a nuclear war) will begin bringing about the Great Tribulation which will culminate in the return of Jesus, the Messiah, 3 ½ years later.
1 Thessalonians 5:2, 3
For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night. While they are saying, “Peace and safety!” then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape.
Matthew 24:42
“Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming.”
So…
