Expectations

John 12:12, 13
On the next day the large crowd who had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet Him, and began to shout, “Hosanna! BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD, even the King of Israel.”

When Jesus entered Jerusalem before the Passover the people shouted “Hosanna!” because they thought He was going to be their King and free Israel from the control and oppression of the Romans.

John 19:14, 15
Now it was the day of preparation for the Passover; it was about the sixth hour. And he said to the Jews, “Behold, your King!” So they cried out, “Away with Him, away with Him, crucify Him!” Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar.”

However, within a few days these same people turned against Jesus and shouted “crucify Him!”. And the reason they did this was because Jesus failed to live up to their expectations.

There will times in your life and my life when people who first meet us will shout “Hosanna!” because they think we will live up to their expectations.

However, when the day comes that we fail to meet those expectations they will turn against us and want to crucify us.

John 17:4
“I glorified You on the earth, having accomplished the work which You have given Me to do.”

But as long as you and I accomplish the work which the Lord has given us to do then we should not be concerned if we fail to meet the expectations of others.

So…

Has someone wanted to crucify you?
